About FF4L

FedFam4Life is intent on securing the release of all women and girls from the prison industrial complex.

Our Story

FedFam4Life is a non-profit Sisterhood co-founded by Tray Johns, Executive Director and Foxxy Mason, President, both formerly incarcerated Black, Gay Veteran Women. The couple, who married in 2017, conceived FedFam4Life to address the urgent need for Black Female leadership in the social justice movement.

Tray Johns spent 8 years, 7 months and 19 days in federal prison for possession of less than $500 worth of drugs. While incarcerated, Johns became a skilled “Jailhouse Lawyer” and since being released, a prominent and fearless social justice activist and sought after public speaker.  From the time of being a Jailhouse Lawyer, Tray had been advocating for the freedom of Tynice Hall. Tray wrote the clemency petition, that through her public speaking, was heard by the right people and led to President Trump releasing her from prison. Tynice became an intrigal part of running programs such as our annual Black Momma Bailout.

Fedfam4life has recently moved to install Tynice Hall as the new Executive Director. Her vision for the future of the organization has the entire team excited and motivated. We have been blessed to have such a fierce advocate and organizer as our founder. We are blessed to have an equally equipped successor.

The Why

The vast majority of women are in captivity or under supervision for low level, non-violent charges. Many were also the scapegoat in their cases and sit in a cell while their co-defendants serve shorter sentences or go free. Others are eligible for release that is being unlawfully denied.

The female incarcerated population stands over six times higher than in 1980.

The range of statistics in the above chart illustrate how dire the issue of mass incarceration is for women. For instance, the number of women in prison has increased by more than 525% between 1980 and 2021. Further, most women who are incarcerated are not even convicted and more than a quarter of women who are behind bars have not yet had a trial.

Dignity Power’s mission is to build political power amongst incarcerated, formerly incarcerated, and impacted women and girls + across the country. Our founders have spent countless hours accumulating and combing through stories of lived experiences and science driven data relating to the incarceration of women and girls+ in the state of Florida. Our founders used that data to train our Dignity Power members on policy writing, lobbying, and advocacy in correlation to the data.
